THE FACE

"Much is said about reading character in a face, but few who attempt this method of analysis are aware of the great wealth of information that lies stored in the line of a nose, the curve of an ear, the marks on the cheek, chin, and forehead. There are volumes of meaning that can be read in each line, dimple, mark, and scar on the physiognomy of the human being."

"We stress the importance of using this and related information only for the good of others and never for self-aggrandizement or personal gain. It must never be employed with pride in order to impress others but always in a spirit of humility and wonder at the fact that The Creator could have been so immensely painstaking as to paint not only the character, but karma, and even the very course of the life into the traits found on the face and head of every one of his earth children."

"The human face consists of 5 basic features, which are the chin, the mouth, the nose, the eyes, and the ears. Secondary features are the forehead and the cheeks. The 5 basic features are related to the 5 inner Planets in Astrology."

"We wish to caution the reader regarding the use of this information. There will be many cases where it will be inadvisable to tell what you know to a person whose face you are studying. Remember that most individuals have been left blissfully unaware of the patterns of trial and loss that they are scheduled to undergo. This is for the simple reason that, if they were to glimpse their 'fate' in advance, they might not draw from the various experiences the maximum benefit in terms of Soul-advancement."

"In view of this cautionary note, the reader might well wonder what possible good is served by explaining these facial correspondences. Indeed, Those Higher Entities Who were responsible for allowing this material to be distributed on The Earth Plane debated that precise question for a considerable time before coming to the final decision."

"The reasoning that persuaded Them was, in part, based on this assumption: namely, that those individuals who would be drawn to learning this technique of 'reading' others would, in the main, be spiritually oriented New Age thinkers who would be unlikely to use their knowledge to harm another or to draw personal advantage. Such individuals would be aware of the burden of responsibility that comes with a knowledge of The Higher Mysteries. Another persuasive point was that there remains precious little time before the current civilization must step forward into a more enlightened outlook on material reality. Within a few short years, many millions of people will be seeking explanations and answers that can only come from those of a spiritual nature."

"In the light of the above, it would, perhaps, be appropriate here to explain the relationship between fate and free-will. It is foreseen that many whose facial markings are 'read' will be confused about the matter, thinking that, if they cannot hope to avoid the particular events and conditions that are foreshadowed in the various markings, then what real freedom do they have to choose? The answer is that, while they may not be able to prevent many of the external events from taking place, they nonetheless retain full freedom to determine their internal reaction to those events."

"The truth of the matter is that many external circumstances and event-patterns are, indeed, arranged and 'predestined' (by The Higher Self), in a manner of speaking, but that the internal reaction of the individual to such events is entirely free."

"The external events are prearranged to a large extent in order to confront each human being with a choice of internal response. Through the requirement to choose in this way, it is hoped that the individual will learn to choose the right and more spiritual response and that, through such tests, he will develope a habit of goodness which will lead to overall improvement in the spiritual sense."

"The face represents the totality of the human individual, from The Oversoul (The Higher Self of The Higher Self) all the way down to the dense physical body. When the symmetry of the face is marred by boils, warts, scars, and other disfigurements, you may be certain that the corresponding portion of the total individual reflects the markings in some way."

The Divine Analogy:

"Mankind's physiognomy provides a guide to the process by which The Soul (or Higher Self) projects a personality into The Earth Realm. At the very pinnacle of the individuality is what We shall call The Oversoul (also called The Monad). At The Oversoul Level, the various traits, characteristics, and preferences of the individual exist in a largely amorphous, undifferentiated state. Following death at the end of each incarnation, and after a sojourn within The Astral Levels of being, The Oversoul withdraws all of the individualizing traits of the personality back into Itself. This process is not experienced as a loss or a submergence by the personality but rather as a restoration of full soul memory. It is an experience of great joy, for it makes whole that which was fragmented."

"Now, The Oversoul has various reasons for wishing to project Itself again into The Earth Plane. However, for a large percentage of individuals, the prospect of sensory pleasure plays a major role in this attraction."

"The Oversoul can be pictured as being represented by the forehead with the addition of 2 darkened lines along the lower edge (the eyebrows). These lines represent the promise of sense pleasure arising from the material worlds of manifestation, hence they are drawn along the bottom. These same 2 lines (the eyebrows) also represent a kind of barrier, across which The Oversoul cannot penetrate in its amorphous or undifferentiated condition. In order to cross this frontier, The Oversoul must first crystallize out of Itself the 2 Cosmic Principles represented by the male/female polarity on The Earth."

"What We are beginning to sketch is the human face with the forehead representing The Oversoul, The Third Eye representing The God Spark, and the eyebrows representing the attraction of sense pleasure. The eyes represent The Higher Self in this system of correlation. The Higher Self is sufficiently differentiated to pass the barrier mentioned above and thus can be clearly distinguished from The Oversoul." (from which it derives its being)

"Everyone is familiar with the saying, 'The eyes are the windows of The Soul.' In light of what We have just explained, this dictum acquires even deeper meaning. Indeed, it is a fact that The Higher Self (often loosely called The Soul) literally peers out through the windows constituted by the eyes. The Higher Self, however, is as yet ill-equipped to make its way into the lower worlds. First, It must fashion for Itself what has been called the ego (or personality). This It does by drawing upon the many traits and characteristics which are contained within The Oversoul. Using the energies of the selected qualities, The Higher Self then projects what may be thought of as a probe down into The Material Plane."

"On the face you will see the probe extending downwardly from the region between the eyes. The ego is thus represented by the nose. In actual fact, The Higher Self uses the fetal body as the earth-plane focus around which the concept of the 'I' can be crystallized. The nose is the 'bridge' linking The Higher Self with the lower, and thus it stands between The Earth Plane and The Higher Realms. Further, the flesh around the nostrils at the bottom of the nose represents the subconscious."

"After birth has taken place, the new personality begins to load data into its subconscious which, up to the time of birth, contains little. This occurs primarily while the infant sleeps. The new consciousness is taken up to certain locations in The Higher Realms and reviews portions of some of its past lives. These experiences are stored in the subconscious and there await the experience which will trigger them to influence the individual."

"The subconscious also stores past scenes involving souls who will again be a part of the current life experience. This is the reality behind the oft-remarked experience of meeting another for the first time, yet feeling a great kinship that cannot be explained."

"From the center which is established by the ego or self-image (the nose), energies go forth to develope the 3 lower facets: the mental, the emotional, and the physical. On the face, the mental sphere is placed on the upper lip area just below the nose. This is logical since intellect is equated to air and the nose breathes air. Further down on the upper lip, specifically the part closest to the pink of the lip is found the emotional/feeling area. Finally, the physical body is represented by the entire region below the mouth, from the pink down to the chin."

"We have thus described a kind of 'flow-chart' representing the entire process by which an Oversoul undertakes a new incarnation on The Earth Plane. We will recap briefly:

--- The forehead is normally clear and without striking features, hence its correlation with the relatively undifferentiated Oversoul.

--- The eyebrows represent the sense-pleasure attraction toward the lower worlds. Run your finger gently along an eyebrow without touching the skin and note the pleasureful sensation this creates.

--- The eyes signify the male/female polarities which The Oversoul must crystallize out to allow It to descend toward The Material Plane.

--- The nose is the ego or self-picture, and the flesh around the nostrils represents the subconscious.

--- The upper lip denotes the mental sphere just below the nose and the emotional sphere along the bottom just above the pink.

--- The lower lip down to the chin represents the physical body."

"We must hasten to add that this system coexists with other systems, for example, Iridology, Phrenology, and so on. The Power That made this Race took great pains to ensure that maximum information could be encoded into the human body, thus allowing those suitably trained to use that data in a helpful way."

Facial Clefts:

"We shall discuss the meanings to be ascribed to vertical clefts and creases down the middle of the face. To begin with, it may confidently be assumed that any verticle cleft or the like appearing roughly down the middle of the face denotes an unresolved conflict or rivalry between the male and female principles."

"It is part of the learning path on This Planet to reconcile and blend together these Cosmic Archetypes without losing their special character. If the lesson has not yet been fully learned, evidence of the failure is almost always engraved upon the physiognomy in the form of a vertical crease. It is as if the antagonistic principles have been separated into 2 camps (right and left), with a crevice or canyon preventing them from intermingling."

1. Forehead Creases:

"We have pointed out that the forehead represents The Oversoul, That Eternal Portion of the individual from which the lower personality draws its basic traits. Often, the most obvious marking on a person's forehead is a cleft or crease extending vertically at about the middle. If the crease is high up on the forehead, the unresolved conflict is lodged rather deeply within The Oversoul and will, in all likelihood, give rise to difficulties for the earth personality. These difficulties may spill over into many departments of life: personal relationships, career experiences, and the physical body as well."

"Look for ways to help the person integrate the male/female polarities by first discovering where in his life-pattern the conflict tends to manifest most obviously. Work at reconciling the warring factions, primarily by prompting the person to recognize the trait within himself. Often the problem is much alleviated merely by having the individual 'own' the trait rather than consistently denying its existence."

"High clefts are rare. The most common location for a forehead crease is toward the lower part, sometimes penetrating to or below the eyebrow level. When the cleft passes through the location of The Third Eye, the message is that the conflict is standing in the way of receiving higher inspiration from one's Guides or Teachers. This kind of channel is, of course, represented by The Third Eye, which for most people is literally the aetheric organ through which Cosmic Truth is received."

2. Eye-level Creases:

"Where a portion of the forehead cleft clearly descends to the top of the nose and lies between the eye sockets, the message is that the conflict has interfered with the individual's capacity for precipitating, in a balanced way, the male/female polarity represented by the eyes. In many cases, close observation will reveal some lack of symmetry between the 2 eyes. For example, one eye may have a slightly different color or be set slightly below or above the other."

"In the life-pattern, this person will often feel much isolated from the opposite sex, or may regard the other sex as mysterious or threatening in some way. In wedlock, one with this low forehead cleft will tend to resist the unbuttoned intimacy and trust which characterize most successful marriages -- keeping himself aloof and insular. The relationship is clearly threatened by the stance so taken, because of The Cosmic Law Which requires all things to change -- either expanding and growing or contracting and dying."

3. Nose Creases:

"We have pointed out that the nose respresents the ego or self-picture. It is rare for the middle region of the nose to have an obvious crease or cleft. The primary location for such a mark is at the bottom of the nose, i.e. dividing the nostrils (which represent the subconscious). When this crease is clearly present, it signifies that the conflict between the male and female principles is lodged or stuck in some way at the level of the subconscious. Often the subconscious of a person marked in this way will contain glimpses of past lives in which the individual was not able to reconcile sex with love. Such episodes will, typically, be ones in which the person experienced sex without love or love without sex."

"Because of the many past incarnations in which sex and love were kept in separate compartments and never allowed to mingle, it is to be expected that this same ability to sever them will also be present now. Such a person can be helped by the realization that love was meant to be the primary thrust of a relationship and that the sexual embrace is merely a way of allowing the physical body to express that Divine Principle. As with many things, such expression has 3 subcategories. The physical We have already mentioned. But love can also be expressed at the mental level by saying, 'I love you', and at the emotional level by feeling it."

4. Upper Lip Creases:

"In most individuals, there is, of course, a natural concavity in the upper lip just beneath the nose. This represents a healthy ability to mentally and emotionally distinguish between the male and female principles as they manifest during an earth life. This natural depression does not signify an unresolved conflict."

"There are, however, certain unusual kinds of clefts or creases in this region. The most significant one is the 'hare lip'. This condition is always congenital and is characterized by a split in the upper lip which sometimes climbs as high as the bottom of the nose. Symbolically, this mark designates one who in previous lives had caused a good deal of misery to another, primarily by forcing a spouse to submit to degrading sexual practices."

"The condition is thus both a reminder and a retribution. The individual so marked will, in many cases, retain, in this life, the viewpoint which led to those past-life experiences -- one in which members of the other sex are regarded as objects. Of course, the intention is for such a person to dismantle that viewpoint. In some cases, the lesson is learned early in the life, because The Higher Self knows perfectly well why the mark was placed on the face."

5. Teeth Gaps:

"When one has a separation between the 2 upper front teeth (equivalent to a cleft), the significance is that there remains some unresolved conflict between the male and female parts of The Soul. However, the result of the conflict is to impel the individual in the direction of worldly success, however he may define this, i.e. a strong attraction toward money, power, or fame. There is a tendency to place such success well ahead of other, more human values and pleasures. As a result, if pushed too far, this trait will often bring sorrow into the personal life as a form of lesson for the individual."

6. Chin Creases:

"The most common mark in this area is the 'dimple' in the center of the chin. It is currently the fashion to regard this mark as attractive, especially for men. There are a number of male film stars, for example, who have a very prominent depression in this location. Generally, the mark designates one in whom the polarized male/female energies tend to find release primarily in aggressive or violent behavior. This cleft shows that any aggressiveness which may be present arises through a failure, thus far, to reconcile the warring male and female sides of the individual. A tendency to suppress one and elevate the other aggravates the aggressive urges."

"Typically, the cleft is found in men, and the result is a tendency to allow the aggressive traits to surface against the spouse. Of course, one of the life-lessons for such a person is to control belligerence and to channel its abundant power into more positive avenues. For many individuals born with this symbol on the face, the learning is accomplished by the mid-life age of 35."

7. The Palate:

"In the case of the cleft palate, the unresolved conflict (of the male/female equation) has, in past lives, led the soul to practice continued cruelty against the spouse, for which the karma is to endure a life with this disfiguration."
The Forehead:

"We have explained that the forehead, symbolically, represents The Oversoul, i.e. That from which the individual draws his particular facets and traits. The Oversoul is a kind of homogenous repository of the manifold characteristics which have been developed over many lives on The Earth Plane."

"The ideal forehead is clear and smooth, without marks, lines, or prominent spots. However, very few individuals have such an uncluttered brow. The reason for this is that The Oversoul, represented by the forehead, contains what might be called anomalies -- places where unresolved conflict is buried or karmic patterns that await the turning of the appropriate life-cycle before manifesting."

"We will discuss a few of the more common marks and their meaning. Generally speaking, the forehead can be divided into 4 quadrants. Imagine a first division line running vertically up from the nose, and another extending horizontally across the brow from left to right at the middle. This will identify the different quadrants."

"Each of these quadrants (designated from the perspective of the forehead owner) is associated with a particular area of life experience, as follows:
1. Upper Right: Invariably, this sector represents the ability of the individual to accept his karma. Visibly prominent marks in this area suggest that the person is likely to resent life's hardships or think of himself as a victim.

2. Upper Left: This region has to do with the willingness to learn life's lessons from direct experience on The Earth Plane. Many individuals strongly resist the learning process, doggedly hanging on to their negative habits or their narrow conceptions. Visibly prominent markings here suggest that the person will resist the processes designed to change him for the better.

3. Lower Right: This quadrant can show at least some of the specific mental, emotional, or physical karma that must be endured in this particular life.

4. Lower Left: Here is a region which can show many of the life-lessons that must be worked on in this incarnation."

"We will now look more closely at each of these regions."
1. Upper Right Quadrant of Forehead:

"Spots or warts that are quite dark in color designate one who particularly resents hardship of all kinds."

"Obvious vertical lines indicate an individual who expends much energy avoiding his karma, or who seeks ways to have the karmic effect fall upon someone else."

"Obvious horizontal lines designate the tendency to simply deny the possibility that the individual might have been responsible for the difficult patterns in his life."

"A dark discoloration or pigmentation is a serious warning to the person to face up to life's difficulties, for it suggests that there remains a great deal of karmic consequence that has yet to be discharged."

2. Upper Left Quadrant of Forehead:

"Spots or warts indicate an individual who tends to resist learning and changing, particularly when there are many lessons yet to be mastered. The darker and more noticeable the mark, the more serious is the warning."

"Vertical lines here represent a tendency to make light of the necessity to learn and improve, to pass such things off with a wave of the hand."

"Horizontal lines suggest that the person has a habit of regarding others as being in need of serious reform, while never imagining that he himself must change."

"Discoloration or pigmentation in this quadrant means that the individual has constructed for himself a mental fortress behind which he hides his fear that his preconceptions and prejudices might have to be altered."

3. Lower Right Quadrant of Forehead:

"Dark spots or warts in this region point to specific episodes in life when karma must be faced. A general idea may be had of the timing of the various events by assuming that the life begins at the vertical mid-line of the forehead and progresses horizontally out toward the temple."

"Assume a standard life of 70 years, and take the half-way point (halfway to the temple ridge) as being age 35. The vertical position of a mark on the lower right quadrant also has significance. The lower the mark, the more likely that the karma will be at the physical or material level of reality. For example, the karma may affect the individual's physical body or his possessions. The higher the mark, the more likely that the karmic effect will touch mainly the emotional or mental level of experience."

"Vertical lines in this quadrant designate serious karmic events, especially when the lines traverse the eye socket and reappear below the eye."

"Horizontal lines represent on-going or drawn-out experiences of a karmic nature. For example, such a line could represent some chronic physical condition that persists for several years."

"Discoloration or pigmentation (darker than the skin) designates a whole complex of karmic consequences which will likely be faced within a shortened time frame. Judge the timing in the manner described above."

4. Lower Left Quadrant of Forehead:

"Dark spots or warts in this quadrant designate specific learning processes, the lessons usually being of a moral, behavioral, or spiritual nature. Time runs from the center of the head toward the left, age 35 being halfway between the center and the left temple ridge."

"Vertical lines on the lower left quadrant point to very serious events which are arranged by one's Guides as a last desperate attempt to uplift the consciousness of the person with such marks. This is particularly the case when the mark appears to traverse the eye socket and reappear beneath it."

"Horizontal lines in this area signify that prolonged trials in the life have the primary purpose of teaching certain spiritual lessons."

"Discoloration or pigmentation in this quadrant points to the need to apply oneself to the job of improving and learning."

5. The Mark of Cain:

"The Mark of Cain consists of 4 roughly vertical lines which seem to pass through the eyes -- 2 on each side. When this is found, the meaning is more complex than merely that of murder. We wish to emphasize that there is hardly a soul now incarnate upon The Earth who has not been responsible for the death of at least one other soul in some prior life. Thus, to have been an agent of death for another is not specifically what the Mark of Cain betokens. Its meaning is that the karma arising from the murders that were committed in past lives has not yet been fully set aside."

"It is important to understand, in this connection, that there is more than one way to set aside karma relating to murder. Indeed, if the only way to meet such karma were to die in a similar situation, then there are many individuals who simply would not have sufficient lives to be able to set all their karma aside. Many souls have been directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds, even thousands."

"One way of setting aside death-related karma is to give birth. Indeed, the birth labor undergone by a woman is also used to allow her to meet any pain-related karma arising from the death, which is being set aside by the new life being brought forth."

"Another way to meet such karma is to serve The Race in a spiritual sense. To rescue a soul from the obliteration of the downward spiral more than compensates for having taken a physical body from a soul through murder. Indeed, many individuals who have dedicated themselves to spiritual work -- almost to the point of fanaticism -- are ones who know deep within that they must find a way to offset the death and destruction for which they once were responsible."

"Thus, those who have the 4-fold mark on the brow would do well to begin to seek a higher path if they are not already living a spiritually aware life. Moreover, the individual vertical lines each refer to some basic flaw in the soul's make-up that stands in need of correction in this life. The lines passing through the right eye pertain to some problem connected with the male side of the soul, while those on the left relate to the female side. The specific meaning, however, can only be determined through a detailed analysis of other signals on the body and from a thorough knowledge of the temperament of the individual."
The Eyebrows:

"We have already explained that the eyebrows represent, at a symbolic level, the barrier which separates The Earth Plane from the more aethereal regions of Creation, where The Oversoul normally resides. They also designate the attraction of the kind of sense-pleasure that the material world makes available. As a demonstration, We ask the reader to run his finger-tip gently along an eyebrow, touching only the hairs and not the skin. Most individuals will experience this as a pleasureful stimulation. In a general way, the more enjoyable this experience, the more is one attracted by pleasure."

"Subconsciously, everyone knows that the eyebrows represent the degree to which pleasure plays a part in the life-pattern. Of the general population, about 70% are attracted mainly to sexual stimulation, and the remainder are drawn by other material pleasures such as eating, athletic activity, and so on."

"This subconscious knowledge is responsible for attempts to change the appearance of the eyebrows, especially among women. For example, it is common for women to pluck their eyebrows, thus thinning them out like a vegetable garden. Such a practice usually shows that the individual does not wish to appear enslaved to pleasure. In some instances, it actually corresponds to an internal decision to overcome the tyrrany of the senses."

"There are many faces in which the eyebrows are thicker toward the nose and thin out naturally toward the extremities. This condition, provided it is natural and not the result of plucking, marks a person who will most probably set aside many of the sense pleasures as he or she becomes older."

"Much can be told from an examination of the eyebrows when one realizes that the eyebrows have a direct relation to the sexual drives and energies. Very bushy and protruding eyebrows, usually on men, denote a very strong physical drive of this kind. The natural absence of prominent eyebrows tends to point to a weak sex drive. The curve of the eyebrow over the eye is very expressive of certain inner traits, not all having particularly to do with the sexual energies."

"When the 2 eyebrows touch each other and become, in effect, one line, there is an indication that the individual has merged the female drives with the male drives and that he or she is not, therefore, troubled by vagrant fears of homosexuality or lesbianism. Indeed, it is important to realize that this drive, in both men and women, stems from the same energy source, namely The Root or Kundalini Chakra. Problems, in terms of sexual identity, arise only when an individual wishes to reject and push away one manifestation of this energy while clinging to the other."

"It can help such persons to realize that the feeling of sexual arousal in both sexes is the same, regardless of the bodily apparatus used to express it. If this concept can be accepted, then maybe individuals faced with this struggle can learn to combine the 2 halves within themselves and thus free themselves from the fears and doubts which have plagued their sex lives."

"It will be appreciated, from the above, that the eyebrows which are naturally separated and apart from each other by a marked degree denote one who has suppressed the sexual half belonging to the opposite sex. We should point out that females normally repress male sexuality to a greater degree than males repress female sexuality. This is due partly to the considerable influence of the hormones which the female body produces. It is for that reason that females generally have a greater separation between the eyebrows than do males."

"Other eyebrow indications are self-evident. The constantly knit eyebrows denote the compulsive worrier. The eyebrows which slope down to the center indicate anger and aggressivity."

"We wish to comment about the meaning of warts and the like that are, literally, within the eyebrow. The life-timing can be read as with the forehead, beginning at age zero next to the nose, age 35 at the midpoint, and the end of the life at the outside extremity. Such excrescences normally denote an event or circumstance which forces the individual to rethink his commitment to sense-pleasure. For example, his overeating might result in a physical crisis at about the age indicated. As another example, overindulgence in sex may lead to a serious infection. It is usually not possible to say, merely from the existence of the mark, precisely what the event or circumstance will be."

"A final point relates to the rising lines which are occasionally seen on the forehead radiating upwardly from the eyebrow, usually sloping slightly toward the temples as they rise. These lines are typically more clearcut than are the usual 'crease-lines' on the forehead that become visible when one wrinkles one's brow. The upward rising lines resemble more the lines of the palm in clarity."

"These lines always designate particularly serious lessons to be learned in regard to either the male role or the female role in terms of earth life. Often these lessons have to be learned through considerable suffering of a karmic nature. Where 2 or more lines arise from the eye which designates the opposite sex, it is almost inevitable that that person must, at some point during the life, pass through an experience of loss relating to someone of the opposite sex and that the loss will be a hard time for him. It is expected that a great impetus to value the other sex more highly will arise from this experience of deprivation."

The Eyelids:

"The eyelids represent the material and emotional security with which the soul surrounds itself during an incarnation. The eyelids stand for the various levels of security or buttressing which the soul requires to see it safely through an earth experience."

"The upper lid refers to material protection (wealth, property, etc.), while the lower points to the emotional underpinning of the incarnation, as derived mainly from the early influence of the parents."

"As with the eyebrows, there is a timing of sorts that can be applied to the lids, however, We caution the reader not to apply it too strictly. In a general way, the nose-ward end of each eyelid refers to the early part of the life, and the outer portion designates the mature years."

"On the upper lid, a mark or wart can be taken to represent a time when the need for material security will be tested. It is virtually impossible to say, however, just what form the test will take. In some cases, the test is cancelled before it is due to begin because of choices which the individual has made in the earlier years."

"On the lower lid, and down from the margin by as much as one-half inch, a mark will often designate the end of the period during which the corresponding parent exerted a strong influence. Thus, a spot below approximately the middle of the right eye would point to the end of, or a major lessening of, the father's input into the life. Sometimes, this would correspond with the death of the father, but We caution the reader against jumping to any detailed conclusion in this area."

"As an interesting aside, note that the position of the tear duct on each lower lid corresponds in timing to about the age of puberty, and consider that this period of the life is often one of frustration, emotional outbursts, and tears."

The Eyes:

"The human eye is a symbol of great importance. The Scriptures are filled with references to the eye and to 'making the eye whole'. There is a beautiful symbolism in the form of the human eye which all men understand at the subconscious level. Indeed, this subconscious comprehension contributes much to the feeling of beauty which a well-formed eye can convey."

"The eye is the window of The Soul, but it is much more than that. It is a perfect representation of the state of the physical body within its Aetheric Sheath or Counterpart. In Europe many doctors realize that the iris of the eye responds, in minute detail, to injuries and illness affecting the various parts of the body. The science of Iridology has been developed to codify the knowledge that has been generated by the painstaking studies of the early pioneers of this subject. What is not generally realized is that, symbolically speaking, the iris is the physical body. Moreover, the white of the eye (the sclera) is the symbolic equivalent of The Aetheric Body or Sheath in which the physical is 'set' and from which the physical derives most of its energy. Finally, the pupil in the center of the iris, through which one literally looks out, is the representation of The Higher Self."

"Around the iris are locations which correspond to various body organs, limbs, etc. These portions are directly related to Soul-qualities in The Higher Self. When the pupil is 'out of round' at a particular location adjacent a specific organ, limb, etc. position on the iris, it is possible for one with sufficient knowledge to say just what Soul-quality is being designated and what efforts need to be made to rectify the condition first at the level of The Higher Self and then at the physical. Any pupil shape other than perfectly round denotes an equivalent lopsidedness or over-emphasis on some aspect at The Soul Level."

"When a person has marks or patches on the sclera of the eye, these are designations of locations of weakness or distortion in the energy patterns of The Aetheric Body. The positions of such marks around the iris exactly designate the locations of the problems on The Aetheric Sheath."

"One of the most common scleric marks in the present day is that of yellowish patches which are found often on persons who consume large quantities of meat. These people are abusing their stomachs by requiring constant secretion of Hydrochloric Acid in order to allow the appropriate enzymes to break down the protein molecules in the meat. The over-secretion of Hydrochloric gradually turns the digestive tract into an acidic environment rather than an alkaline one, as it was meant to be, and the excess acid is taken into the physical body through the intestinal wall. This eventually results in the yellow patches on the sclera, but these also designate locations in The Aetheric Body which have been weakened by the excessively protein-rich diet of the meat eater."

"We wish to deal now with one particular aspect of the eyes which few occultists understand. We speak of the connection between the eyes and the inner traits which are grouped under the terms animus and anima in Jungian Psychology. The latter school of analysis recognizes that within each person are traits belonging to both the male principle and the female principle. Thus, a woman will have, in addition to the usual traits of gentleness, love of harmony, a nurturing instinct, etc., at least some of the more typically masculine characteristics like aggressiveness, an urge toward self-realization, athletic inclinations, and adventure-someness. Conversely, all men will include at least some of the more feminine virtues, whether they care to admit it or not."

"For purposes of this discussion, the Jungian term animus will be used to signify the package of male characteristics, and the anima will designate the feminine ones. In terms of the symbols under discussion, the right eye of any human tells something of the animus, while the left eye represents the anima. This holds for both males and females. Thus, the right eye for a man will represent the package of traits in The Higher Self that have primarily manifested in the sexual identity of the lower personality, while, for a woman, this is the function of the left eye."

"At this juncture, it would be well to explain that The Soul or Higher Self of any human being is not differentiated in sexual terms to nearly the same degree as is found in the lower self or personality. There is usually some leaning toward one or the other at The Higher Level, and it is possible to refer to a predominantly male Soul or a predominantly female One, but the distinctions are not as clearly drawn as they are on The Earth Plane."

"When a Soul decides to incarnate by taking on a physical body, It selects characteristics from within Itself to manifest through the new personality, and these It allows to influence the body as it is forming in the womb and later the personality traits that develope at the conscious level."

"Hence, at a more complex level, We could state that the right eye not only represents the animus or male package at the personality level but also reflects something of the animus side of The Higher Self as well, since it is from this Level that the personality traits primarily come. It is true that a person is influenced in personality developement by the nature of the early home experience, but these influences tend to be more superficial than the traits that are inborn, i.e. which come down from The Higher Self."

"The same is true in regard to the left eye and its connection with the anima both at the lower and Higher Levels."

"Now, by examining and carefully comparing the 2 eyes of any human being, it is possible to draw conclusions about the comparative balance or imbalance between the female and the male parts of the self. Where a distinct difference is noted, whether in color, shape, strength of vision, or whatever, it is certain that some state of tension or imbalance exists between animus and anima, firstly at the personality level, and most probably at The Higher Level as well. We make this qualification since there are a few cases in which, for special purposes, a well-balanced Soul or Higher Self may choose to project a personality in which there is tension, conflict, or imbalance between the male and female traits that are expressed."

"This brings Us to an interesting point, for it can be readily observed by any who take the trouble that a person whose eyes are imbalanced in a marked way will confront, during his life, certain situations in which a conflict or tension between himself and someone of the opposite sex is a very strong factor. Usually this will be a repeating pattern in the life-experience."

"An examination of the eyes of one in whom they are unbalanced will indicate which of the 2 sexual halves is primarily responsible for the problems in the personal life."

"Take the example of a person who has the left eye slightly more closed than the right on a permanent basis. Firstly, a partly closed left eye always denotes the future or present risk of heart ailment, and it will typically be found that there is a family history of cardio-vascular problems for such a person. The left eye denotes the left side of the body, among other things, of course, and the major organ on the left is the heart. Two other portions of the anatomy are also constructed by the same energy that forms and maintains the heart, namely the esophagus and the aorta. For this reason, a partly closed left eye can also be found in one suffering from Hiatal Hernia (a malfunction involving the esophagus and stomach), weaknesses in the aortal walls (Aortic Aneurysm), and so forth."

"In terms of the animus/anima pattern, the partly closed left eye will mean that this person has trouble 'seeing' the female role clearly. If the person is a woman, it will be herself that she cannot clearly perceive. Her self-picture will be distorted and will not correspond to reality. There may be the feeling that she is deceiving herself about her own self."

"Obviously, a partly closed left eye in a man will also designate an inability to see the female role clearly, but for him it will mean a distorted or unclear picture of the other person in a man/woman relationship rather than himself."
Visual Acuity:

"The need to use additional means to help focus the eyes arises physiologically from a combination of 2 things: one is the inability of the lens of the eye to accommodate to various distances; the other is the inability of the eyeball to literally change its length as a result of the pull of various muscles. The changing of the length of the eyeball alters the distance between the lens and the retina, and this helps the eye to focus on objects at various distances."

"In terms of the higher realities, the inability to focus the eyes on objects at certain distances or, indeed, any eye malfunction refers generally to an inability to see some particular facet of reality or of oneself. The difficulty with sight is always intended to remind the individual that there is something which he is not perceiving or is not assimilating properly. Depending on which eye is the more strongly involved, it can be concluded whether it is the female or the male side of experience which is not seen clearly."

Astrological Connection:

"The eyes are associated astrologically with The Planet Venus -- the goddess of beauty and love -- because the eyes themselves are a thing of great beauty in many human beings, and because they are the principal organ by which beauty is perceived. We refer here to color and form in nature and in art."
"It is through the eyes that we discover the true inner essence of any person. The soul knows that its real nature is laid bare to one who looks it directly in the eyes, and for this reason there are many who avoid the glance of others. They do not wish the other person to see the stains which are on The Soul, so they shut the portals through which the blemish is visible."

"If ever you wish to see what any person is truly like, then simply study his eyes. There you can read honesty or criminality, worldliness or spiritual striving, kindness or cruelty, gentleness or aggression. The eyes of one who has progressed far along his quest for God are vastly different from the eyes of him who knows not that he is a spiritual being."

"Eyes may open wide or may shut to small slits. Here is the signal which tells how open and forthcoming is the soul. He who closes the eyes to a mere slit is shutting himself away from others, through distrust, anger, or the memory of an ancient pain in another life."

"There are eyes that speak of kindness and a gentle heart, to whom the weary in soul turn for solace. There are eyes that know truth with a deep and burning certitude, and to these come the seekers of the world. And there are eyes that have seen The Countenance of God with a pure heart, and these are the eyes of The Great Wayshowers of all the ages."

The Nose:

"Man has an expression which, at The Level from Which this dictation is emanating, is considered highly amusing: 'as plain as the nose on your face'. If only its meaning symbolically were as plain as this expression suggests. But only a handful of men realize that the nose on the human face and, indeed, the nose of any animal bears a direct relation to the self-image and feeling of self-worth which that person (or animal) has."

"One of the major tasks of Man upon The Earth has been to develope a concept of individuality, of the distinction between one man and another. In order to do this, it is essential to be happy with the self-picture which is formed through the individualization process, for otherwise there will be little impetus to manifest and expand that individuality."

"The relation between the nose and the feeling of self-worth is a direct one. Body language, in the sense We are discussing it, was never meant to be obscure. If the nose is large, so is the self-image. If small, the same is true of the picture of the self."

"Consider a little child. Almost invariably infants and young children have very diminutive noses. The reason is now obvious. The self-image or feeling of self-worth in the small child is still in the process of developing. It is very much at the mercy of the attitudes which the parents have toward the child. If a parent treats a child in a way to suggest that the child is of little value or unloved, then the self-image of the child will be stunted in its growth. Such children, when they grow up, will have smaller noses than would have been the case had they been made to feel worthy, loved, and happy with themselves."

"Another fact should have been a clue to the meaning behind the nose. Doctors now know that, generally, the nose continues to grow throughout life. For the average person, the gradual enlargement of the nose is consonant with the (usually) improving self-image that the person has. Where a person does not improve the self-image, the nose does not grow."

"There is one particular signal, associated with the nose, which most people are aware of consciously. When someone has abused alcohol over a long period of time, the nose tends to turn red and assume a 'strawberry' appearance. The misuse of alcohol is almost always linked to a very poor self-image, from which the person seeks an escape in the mindless stupor which alcohol can provide."

"Generally, the alcoholic is dissatisfied with himself and looks down on himself as being unworthy. The more he sees himself in this light, the more he actually becomes lower on the evolutionary scale in spiritual terms. The coarsening of the self-image due to the constant self-denigration in the thought patterns ultimately produces a literal coarsening in the surface of the nose, hence the 'strawberry nose' characteristic. The redness of the nose and the surrounding cheek area is due to the engorgement of these tissues with blood, always the signal of embarassment. In this case, the person is, literally, embarassed to be himself, and the nose coloration is telling the world that this is so."

"There are happy, upturned noses, pessimistic, downturned noses, unbalanced, crooked noses, and so on. Each of these characteristics is a reflection of the self-ness or self-picture of the nose owners, and the reader who wishes to make a study of the matter need only ask himself what he feels or senses about the nose of a given subject in order to discern something of importance about the self-image in question."

"We have explained that the size, shape, and orientation of the human nose generally reflect certain qualities associated with the ego. In addition, any prominently observable markings on the nose will normally point to events or conditions which have an impact, positive or negative, on the self-picture. The general rules regarding such timing indicators are the following:

1. Scars usually designate events or circumstances which leave a scar on the ego-picture.

2. Marks which are lighter in color than the surrounding skin point to events or circumstances which have a positive or beneficial effect on the ego-picture.

3. Marks which are darker in color than the surrounding skin designate events or circumstances which have a negative or damaging effect on the ego-picture.

4. The degree of impact for any given marking is roughly proportional to its degree of noticeability due to size, color, or shape.

5. The life from birth to death progresses downwardly along the crest of the nose, with zero at the top.

6. The mid-point along the nose corresponds approximately to age 35."
"It is of interest to note that most noses are larger at the bottom than at the top. This fits the general pattern in which one's ego-picture continues to become stronger or larger as the life progresses. In some cases, even the fully mature nose continues to grow in size throughout life. This tends to occur with those who, even in maturity, develope a stronger and stronger self-picture on a continuing basis."

"The 'pug' nose which has a concave profile is generally small by comparison with the rest of the face. Normally, this nose shape indicates that the ego or self-picture is somewhat frail throughout the main portion of the life, strengthening only toward old age."

"The nose which has a straight profile throughout and which could be taken to represent the 'nominal' or average experience in regard to the nature of the ego symbolizes a steady, uninterrupted growth from childhood to maturity."

"A nose which is outwardly convex in profile (hook-nose) is sometimes called an aquiline nose because of the obvious curvature. For many noses of this category, it is possible to single out a particular point on the profile where the outward thrust appears to begin. Where there is such an obvious beginning point (down-turning in profile), look for a phase at about the age indicated where the individual was able to improve the self-picture by a personal effort of some kind."

"Some noses expand sideways or laterally when viewed frontally (at a certain location on the time line from birth to death). When the nose includes such a feature, the meaning is that, during the life-phase (the time period) indicated, the person will undergo a strengthening of the self-picture due to factors that are not within his or her control. Thus, the individual himself will not take positive steps to improve the ego (unlike that with the aquiline nose). Instead, the improvement will come by circumstances over which he has no control."

"Although most noses are situated on the precise mid-line of the face, there are some which appear to veer off toward one side or the other. When this characteristic is found, the meaning is that the individual somehow favors either the male or the female side of experience. Left is female; right is male."

"Let Us give an example. Assume that a man's nose strikes off noticeably toward the left. This would indicate a tendency to be drawn toward the female archetype, which could typically manifest in the following ways:

a.  He might tend to take his mother's side in any altercation between his parents and to carry a wariness of his father into adult life, where it could manifest as belligerance or strong competitiveness toward other men.

b.  He could tend to become very involved or 'caught up' in his love-relations with women, relying too much on his mate for emotional security.

c.  If he is heterosexual, he might be drawn to sports, hunting, or other 'men stuff' in order to counteract the strong pull of the female principle within him.

d.  He may tend to deny qualities within him which smack of femininity, such as an artistic or emotional streak."
"Contrast the foregoing picture with that of a male whose nose wanders off toward the right. Here is a person who values male opinions rather higher than those of females and has, usually, an inflated image of his father. Typically, he will surround himself with male friends and associates and will look on women as people to be, at worst shunned and, at best, tolerated."

The Nostrils:

"The main characteristic to observe about the nostrils is the direction in which they are aimed. In the human species, the nostrils point generally downward, but it is possible to distinguish between nostrils that angle outwardly and nostrils that angle inwardly. The so-called pug nose usually has the nostrils pointing outwardly, whereas people with very long noses often have the nostrils pointing inwardly."

"The nostrils draw the breath of life. When the nostrils aim outwardly (i.e. they can be prominently seen looking directly at the face), it may be concluded that the individual draws the breath of life from others around him, from his environment, etc. Often, though not always, a person whose nostrils have a pronounced outward opening tends to have a life-pattern where he or she simply reacts to the actions of others or to the surroundings."

"This is to be contrasted with nostrils which aim inwardly. The latter typically designates a person who draws the breath of life primarily from within himself. He is an island unto himself, usually a self-starter, and is not easily swayed by the views of others. He is much less reactive than the person with nostrils facing outwardly."
"We must stress that individuals whose noses are markedly angled either outwardly or inwardly often find their life-patterns to be difficult or frustrating, and yet they frequently do not understand the reason for their predicament. Let us consider each case separately."

"The person whose nostrils are directed outwardly, typically combined with a small or pug-nose, tends to allow other people to largely determine the course of the life. For example, a young woman with this nose shape may find that she cannot say no when her relatives ask her to baby-sit, or that her parents dictate the details of her social life, etc. She ends up doing what everyone else wants her to do and never what she wants to do. Clearly, she is merely reacting to her environment, instead of standing firm and insisting on her own choices and pathways. Note that her susceptibility to the influence of others may be due, in part, to a deficient self-picture in the case where the profile of the nose is concave or 'pug'."

"By contrast, the individual whose nostrils are directed prominently inwardly may find that his social life consists of a long chain of broken relationships that shatter amid accusations that he 'never listens', or he 'doesn't care', or he is 'too introspective', or 'too stubborn'. Again, it should be noted that part of the problem could be related to an over-inflated ego in the case where the nose is particularly large or long."

"Consider some interesting examples drawn from the animal world. Almost every dog has nostrils that aim directly outward, characterizing a life-form which is clearly in the reactive category. A dog's actions are almost entirely a result of the interplay with his master. He responds to verbal or hand signals. He walks where his master decides. He wags his tail whenever he sees his master, and so on. Clearly, the breath of life is drawn from his surroundings and not from within himself."

"Another animal example is the bird. These creatures generally have their nostrils aimed or angled upwardly, which characterizes a life-form which draws the breath of life from above, i.e. from higher planes. By contrast, consider the fact that all humans have nostrils which aim generally downward, regardless of the inward or outward slant. This again makes metaphoric sense in view of the fact that mankind's focus of attention is downward, i.e. toward The Earth Plane, materiality, etc."

"To sum up the preceding material, outwardly angled nostrils characterize a person who tends to be reactive and other-directed, whereas inwardly angled nostrils are typically found on those who are self-starters, are largely sufficient unto themselves, and pay little attention to the opinions of others. Naturally, there will be some individuals whose outlook does not appear to conform to the nose-shape. Further investigation may reveal that they are masking the true inner traits or that they have overcome or modified the characteristics through effort."

"We come now the discuss the fleshly portions that define the nostril passageways. These portions are narrow in some and quite wide or broad in others. In a general way, the prominence of the fleshly portions is related to the subconscious and its interplay with the conscious mind."

"Those in whom these fleshly portions are markedly flaring and quite noticeable must contend with a subconscious which exerts a powerful effect on the life-pattern. This is due to the presence of what could be called 'tapes' or 'old programs' lodged in the subconscious part of the mind. Many such tapes are carry-overs from past incarnations and are re-established during the early stages of the present life due to the absorption of particular points of view from the parents or from the milieu in which the individual finds himself. More often than not, the tapes influence the person in a negative way."

"As an example, an individual in this category may be persuaded that people with his background 'never get a fair shake' or 'always end up with the worst jobs'. Because of the great power of the mind when it dwells habitually on a single thought, this individual will automatically generate the very conditions which fit his subconsciously supported assumptions."

"We must hasten to point out that possession of prominent flesh around the nostrils does not necessarily require that the effect of the subconscious be a negative one. Each individual has the power to change or erase the 'tapes' that he has amassed and, in so doing, forge the subconscious into a powerful ally that can help him achieve all his goals."

The Mouth:

"The mouth is the physical body. It is the beginning of the most 'earthy' of the systems in the body, namely the digestive system through which material of The Earth Plane passes. As such, the digestive tract is the lowest in vibration of all the body's systems. Man has lowered its vibration still further, of course, by allowing cadavers (of animals) to enter it and should not, therefore, be surprised that a major portion of the physical afflictions which He suffers are centered on the gastro-intestinal tract. All of the major organs and parts of this system -- the stomach, pancreas, liver, intestines, and especially the colon -- are adversely affected to a marked degree by the habit of eating dead flesh."

"The mouth, then, symbolically designates the physical body of Man. In other words, the basic shape of the mouth will represent the attitudes toward the things of this world, whether a grasping attitude, one of retreat and coldness, or whatever."

"The mouth always denotes traits that are born into the body, i.e. either genetically inherited or impressed from outside upon the physical vehicle. In other words, the mouth traits are those of the body, completely apart from any traits in the incarnated personality. These 2 sets of traits may parallel each other or they may diverge."

"When viewed from the side, in profile, many individuals are seen to have forwardly protruding lips, as if the lips were reaching out to grasp some tid-bit suspended before the mouth. This configuration is perfectly expressive of the grasping individual, the one who is hungry for material satisfaction, gain, pleasure, or whatever the practical world may offer."

"Conversely, the individual whose lips are habitually pulled back against the teeth is generally the reverse. Notice, however, that some whose lips are back against the teeth appear to be almost in a grimace of anger. Again, this indication is perfectly clear. Beneath the surface of such a person lurks a readiness to show anger and irritation."

"Mouths that droop at the ends denote melancholy, a tendency to look at the dark side of things. Mouths that curve upwardly are the reverse."

"As a general rule, when confronting a mouth shape that is different but not self-evident as to meaning, the observer may simply ask himself what he feels about the particular shape, and this should produce the correct analysis quickly. For example, the mouth that is crooked, perhaps only when the individual smiles, clearly points to something in that person which is lopsided or 'off center'. But again, remember that all of these indicators pertain to traits taken on in the act of assuming that particular body, which thus constitute tests which the individual has agreed to undergo."

"Astrologically, the mouth pertains to The Planet Jupiter, since it is jupiter's influence which, when afflicted, produces an over-indulgence in the body's natural proclivities."

The Lips:

"As mentioned, the mouth, symbolically, designates the physical body of Man. The shape and curve of the lips is particularly important. Consider, for example, that the mucous membrane inside of the mouth is particularly sensitive and that it is the extention of this mucous membrane to the outside of the lips which gives them the pink or reddish color."

"The greater the expanse of the pink lip portion that can be seen, the more sensation-oriented is the individual. The sense of touch and sensuality are highlighted in the life-experience of that individual. The physical body and its desires and gratifications loom large in the hierarchy of importance to which that person adheres."

"Conversely, the absence or near-absence of the pink lip material indicates just the opposite from the traits We have just singled out: an absence of sensuality, a turning away from sense stimulation for its own sake, and so forth. Naturally, the most balanced approach is indicated by lips which are between these 2 extremes."

"The lip shape is sometimes super-imposed upon an individual in a way which may run contrary to the characteristics of The Higher Self. Usually, however, the lip shape, in terms of expanse of the pinkish portion, is manipulated in order to over-emphasize a trait already off-balance in The Higher Self. This is done in the hopes that, by forcing the individual to wrestle with the lopsided trait, great strength can be developed to overcome the tendency that is out of balance."

"But We emphasize that this is a difficult task on the part of the individual so marked. Where the trait is that indicated by large lips, and where The Higher Self already has that tendency, the struggle to overcome the lure of sensation and sensuality for its own sake is extremely difficult. Unfortunately, many who must undergo this fight lose it and sink even further into the morass of sense and self-oriented experience."

"We must stress the importance of using this information only for the uplift and aid of one's brothers, for any misuse -- any employment of this knowledge for purposes of self-advantage or self-aggrandizement -- will bring its own special form of karma to the one who misuses it. One of the most accessible and most easily interpreted of the symbolic patterns on the human body is that of the creases and other markings which extend both upwardly and downwardly from and through the lips."

"To begin with, the course of the life is traced from the subject's right to the subject's left along the lips. This means that birth into the present life is represented by the right-hand corner of the mouth, whereas death is denoted by the left-hand corner."

"Even this right-left dichotomy has its own symbolism. We have explained previously that the right side of the body generally represents that which is conscious, active, masculine, and aggressive; whereas the left side denotes that which is introspective, receptive, contemplative, feminine, and intuitive. Now, when any human begins his or her life, there is a strong tendency to experience first the active, rambunctious side of the nature. The typical child has little time for deep introspection, though there are some exceptions, and usually is found to be expressing itself in loud, extroverted, and very physical ways. All of this pertains to the right-side symbology. However, for both sexes, it is expected that, as the life progresses, there will be a tendency to become more philosophical, more contemplative, more intuitive, and more receptive -- all of which is keyed to the left side of the body."

"Another point of interest is also present. The lips diminish to acute corners at the edges. That is, the lips are relatively thick in the middle portion but thin out to nothing at the corners. This represents the vitality of the human physical vehicle as it progresses through life. At the beginning, it is weak and needs the parents to care for it at all times. Likewise, at the end of the life, there is typically a phase of weakness, senility, or illness which precedes the actual transition out of The Earth Plane."

"There is a very neat and quite accurate time/length correlation between the lips and the events of the life itself. The mid-point of the mouth, i.e. the center of the crease in the upper lip directly beneath the nose, represents 35 years of age almost exactly. The phase prior to 35 is closely proportional to the right side of the mouth, although the second half of the life does not follow so exact a proportionality due to the fact that many people have interfered with their intended life-span and shortened it by consuming dead animals and allowing negative thoughts and emotions to be their constant companions."

"We shall use the expressions 'top lip' and 'bottom lip' to refer to the actual pink portions of the lips, i.e. the colored part that is used in kissing. We shall employ the expression 'overlip' to designate the region extending down from the bottom of the nose to the upper margin of the top lip and lying between the typical sloping creases defining the inner edges of the cheeks. The 'overlip' does not include the 'top lip'. Likewise, the term 'underlip' will signify the part of the face beginning at the bottom margin of the 'bottom lip' and extending downwardly. The 'underlip' does not include the 'bottom lip'."

"The Overlip part of the human physiognomy is used as a time grid to display some of the major mental and/or emotional traumas that are expected to have, or have already had, a permanent effect on the individual. Time runs leftwardly from the right-hand end of the top and bottom lips, with the mid-point of the lips representing age 35. (right and left from the perspective of the mouth owner) Events and traumas are displayed by various marks in such a way that the relative emotional and mental impacts can be approximately estimated."

"The higher the mark on the overlip, the greater is the mental impact on the person. The lower the mark, the greater is the emotional impact. A mark at the very bottom of this 'screen' will point to a trauma that is almost entirely emotional in its effect. A mark at the very top, i.e. just under or right beside the lower end of the nose, will be almost entirely mental in impact. When a mark appears about half-way between the top lip and the bottom of the nose, the corresponding event has roughly equal effect in both the mental and emotional areas."

"As pointed out in connection with the nose, the coloring of the mark is an important indicator. When it is darker than the surrounding skin, the effect may be expected to be negative, whereas a lighter spot will have a positive impact. Scars designate events which 'leave a scar' in the mental or emotional experience of the individual (or both). The general rule is this: if a mark can be seen at a distance of 2 feet, then the corresponding event may be assumed to be 'noticeable' in the make-up of the individual."

"The Underlip merges with the chin, and the entire area spanned by these facial features is an accurate 'grid' or 'screen' showing the life-timing of some of the physical traumas to be undergone as well as their approximate location on the body. The life-timing observes the same relationship as is found on the overlip, i.e. the life begins at the right end of the lips and progresses across to the left end. Age 35 is at the middle of the 'screen'. From superior to inferior on this screen (from bottom lip down to the line of the inferior portion of the chin) the location of the trauma on the body follows a pattern as follows: chest, abdomen, legs, and feet. Again, the general rule regarding coloring and prominence applies."

"Turning now to the pink region of The Upper Lip, this represents the emotional or feeling side of the experience. The correspondence arises because of the literal sensitivity of the pink skin of the lip. In reality, the pink is due to the fact that the mucous membrane of the inside of the mouth wraps around partly to the outside. The greatly increased sensitivity to touch in the pink lip region is thus a symbolic indicator that the emotional sensitivity of the individual is being represented. More particularly, it represents the emotional sensitivity to events first perceived by the mind, hence the position on the upper lip close to the region which denotes events having a mental impact."

"Often it is seen that a particular crease will run through the pink portion of the upper lip and then continue on further through the part lying above the pink lip (the overlip). This will refer to an event which has a dual impact -- on the mental experience as well as on the emotional. For example, the loss of someone close can often have an impact on the mind as well as on the emotions. It is to be stressed that one should not necessarily assume that all simple creases are of a specially prominent character in terms of events. The indicator for actual wrenching loss is usually a much more prominent mark than a crease. The best approach, for one who wishes to develope an expertise in this area, is simply to observe and question those with prominent marks. The correlations will soon become quite apparent."

"In addition to the meaning of the upper lip in terms of the course of the emotional life (as impacted by mental experiences), there is a further significance. It is that of haughtiness, the assumption that one is superior to others. Where there occurs a mark, wart, or scar on the upper lip, it will have meaning not only in terms of the course of the emotional life-experiences (perceived first by the mind), but will also point to a karmic necessity to endure a period of subservience or low position in society or work in order to erase from the soul any lingering haughtiness or superiority complex which was erected in a past life or lives."

"The Lower Lip (the pink region) relates to one's emotional sensitivity to essentially physical conditions and events, and the part of the lip below the pink region (the underlip) pertains strictly to the physical events themselves. For example, a serious accident leaving internal damage in the body can be shown by a large boil of a permanent nature or some similar prominent disfigurement occurring below the pink part. The position of the mark with respect to the beginning point at the right corner of the mouth will give an accurate picture of the age at which the event occurred. If there is no matching mark on the pink region (the lower lip), then the physical occurrence did not or will not leave any permament emotional scar on the individual. Conversely, any disfigurement which cuts through the pink region and the region below it will have its effect at both the physical and emotional levels. For example, a serious illness which leaves a residue of emotional estrangement from others or which results in a feeling of inadequacy may well be signalled by such a 2-fold mark."

"The top and bottom lips (the pink regions employed in kissing) also literally represent the heart. The top lip corresponds to the emotional/affectional life of the person, i.e. the feelings in the heart, whereas the bottom lip represents the physical heart itself and the anatomical regions immediately surrounding the heart. How appropriate that, when a man and a woman kiss each other, they make contact at those portions (lips) which literally represent their hearts."

"If the reader were to look closely at his lips in a mirror and 'purse' them, he would notice a myriad of small, vertical lines or creases along the entire length from left to right, creases which tend to run away from the pink region (upper and lower). If a blown-up photograph could be made of these creases to display them in such a way as to accurately measure the age for each crease right down to the specific month, it would be found that every one of them corresponds to a relatively minor emotional 'peak' in the life-pattern. We do not suggest such an exercise, however, because of the difficulty of recalling the timing of events of this kind."

"These markings denote less prominent events but, nonetheless, events which do touch the emotional life in some way, usually representing a negative effect like worry, fear, concern, strain, and the like. It is a wonderful thing to contemplate the meaning of the fact that, when a person smiles, all of the creases disappear. Here is truly the most important symbol of all regarding the lips, for it is saying that joy, happiness, and laughter represent the only way to lift from one's shoulders the weight of mental strain and stress which arises from the many negative events, worries, and so forth which play a part in the life of each individual."

"Of greater interest, of course, are those marks which are clearly seen from a distance of 2 feet, since the events to which they correspond are far more likely to leave or to have left an indelible impression on the individual."

"As a last point regarding the lip symbology, We should point out that even the region just beyond the corners of the mouth can have meaning in terms of the life-pattern. For example, if a person has one or two moles on the same level as the mouth but just off the right corner of the mouth, it is a pointer to a difficult pregnancy or birth (of that person). There would possibly have been complications in the delivery or some other factor causing worry with respect to the pregnancy."

"Ocassionally, the meaning of such a signal relates to the most recent life, in the sense that the previous life may have ended in a sudden or unusual manner which left its 'mark' on The Soul -- to such a degree that the present personality still carries the results of it."

The Cheeks:

"How interesting it is that many expressions in the English language reflect certain Cosmic Truths in a manner that the conscious mind of the average person cannot detect. A case in point is the word 'cheeky'. Parents will often refer to their offspring as 'cheeky' when they want to draw attention humorously to a trait of impudence or brashness in the youngster."

"No better expression could be found, for the possession of wide or substantial cheeks is the hallmark of those who possess a great deal of personal power. The power derives from the fact that The Oversoul and Higher Self are expressing through the personality more of their essence than would be the average amount. It is relatively accurate to say that this extra quantum of spiritual essence requires more substance in the cheeks, so that it can be grounded, i.e. 'attached' to the personality."

"Conversely, it will generally be found that individuals with hollow or sunken cheeks lack the inner spiritual vitality necessary to allow them to exert a great deal of personal power. Consider the ultimate case of concavity in the cheek area, the human skull. Here are found the hollowest possible cheeks, because there is no longer any spiritual essence expressing through what's left of the physical body."

"Let Us return Our attention to the 'cheeky' child. Many children go through a stage in which the cheeks are very puffed out and prominent. Well-fed infants and toddlers are especially good examples. Without exception, the prominence of the cheek area in these youngsters comes about because the spiritual part of his being is very anxious to get into the new body. What happens, then, is that the child with the large cheeks has more essence within him than might be expected for one of his size. The struggle to express all this spiritual stuff can often result in contests of will with the parents, tantrums, or attempts to manipulate others."

"Turning again to the phenomenon of hollow cheeks, it will often be observed that this trait is accompanied by roughly vertical lines in the cheek area. The presence of these lines normally indicates a tendency to be easily embarassed and rather shy in groups."

"A large percentage of individuals presently in incarnation have cheeks that contain spots, warts, or birthmarks. Essentially, there are 2 different areas of interpretation for such markings, provided they can be prominently observed from a distance of 4 or 5 feet."

"The first area deals with sexuality. The presence of any visible mark on the cheek area, regardless of the specific position, identifies the owner as one who carries karma for having, in a past incarnation, treated another person as merely a sexual object for his pleasure. Such activity dehumanizes the victim, of course, and the karma must be met in this present life by having the one who owns the cheek marks suffer similarly at the hands of another."

"The second approach derives meaning from the specific location of particular marks on the cheeks. The significance has generally to do with broadening the mind. Firstly, We must establish the time scale. The life begins at the center point of the chin and progresses in both directions along the jaw line toward the ear. Half-way along the jaw line represents age 35, and life ends at the bottom of the ear. This establishes the time scale."

"The marks which occur right at or very close to the jaw line itself normally represent travel experiences which have had or will have the effect of broadening the horizons of the person with such marks. The higher the marks are above the actual jaw line, the more does the significance shift toward broadening through study, instruction, or revelation."

The Temples:

"The area of the face directly above the cheek is called the temple. If the reader will feel along his forehead from the middle toward one side, he will come upon the temple ridge which defines the inner limit of the temple. The outer or rearward limit of the temple is, for most individuals, covered with hair."

"This portion of the human face can be inspected for marks or discolorations which, if present, will have some meaning in terms of the spiritual wisdom that is available to the individual. The left temple represents an intuitive or psychic capacity for obtaining knowledge of higher things, whereas the right temple designates the ability to rationally deduce The Great Cosmic Laws and to grasp their significance in detail."

"When marks of any kind can be noted on one of the temples from a distance of 4 feet or more, it is likely that the individual has developed some form of blockage against receiving higher wisdom. The particular temple will indicate which avenue is being stopped."

The Chin:

"The chin is connected with Mars, The Planet of energy, strife, and power. Those with a prominent chin tend to lead with the chin as the saying has it. They tend to be more quarrelsome and readier to rush into battle than those with normal or receding chins."

"Generally, the chin is a kind of 'overlay' in which an individual is given a particular shape of chin in order to influence his aggressive tendencies, i.e. either to enhance them or to suppress them, depending upon how prominent or otherwise the chin is. Thus the question of chin size is a minor exception to the general rule regarding the body's features, which is that The Higher Self's own traits tend to mold and predetermine the body shape."

"If a soul has been particularly querulous, headstrong, and pugnacious in previous life-experiences, The Guides of that soul may decide to moderate such tendencies by giving the personality a small or receding chin. With such a configuration, the martian aggressive energies which The Soul may wish to pour down through the earth personality will not have any ready channel through which to flow."

"For the chin is, literally, an energy point in a flow path, along which martian, self-assertive and aggressive tendencies can move. By cutting that flow path short, these energies, if they are sent down in too great an abundance from The Higher Self, will become bottled up and, in time, will begin to affect the physical body adversely, through the intermediary of The Astral Body."

"If a soul has been too weak and retiring in past life-experience and has developed a habit of 'knuckling under' to others, allowing himself to be pushed around, etc., then a strong, jutting jaw line may be given to the earth personality in order to encourage what martian, self-assertive energies there might still be in The Higher Self to flow freely through the lower personality."

"The matter is even more complex than We have thus far explained, for it is a part of the plan for many individuals on The Earth to have the characteristics of the personality enhanced beyond what they are in The Higher Self in order that The Higher can begin to redress its imbalances by absorbing some of the energies and traits which have been 'artificially' super-imposed upon the lower self or personality. A similar procedure has already been explained in connection with the way in which The Planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars can impress upon individuals traits and characteristics which are not necessarily present to the same degree in The Higher Self."

"Marks, warts, scars, and the like all point to particular energy complexes relating to aggression which have been collected in past lives and which must be worked out or dealt with in the present life."

The Ears:

"This organ is of the utmost importance, not only in the sense of hearing, but also in the sense of balance to the human being. It is well known in Medicine that the inner ear is the organ which, literally, allows the physical body to maintain an upright stance and to avoid falling down under the press of gravity. However, few realize that the outer ear is also of importance in the balancing process -- not of the body but of the personality and its traits."

"Let Us be more specific. The ear is the shell into which The Father pours the nectar of life. Now, that phrase may sound obscure until it is realized that the literal shape of the ear as it projects from the head impresses upon The Higher Bodies certain balancing or unbalancing energies, depending upon its shape and size. There are many ear formations, for example, which are applied to an individual for karmic reasons, and which have the effect of bringing to the fore certain tendencies which may not be to the fore in the normal make-up of The Higher Self, or not to the same degree."

"Let Us give an example. Every reader knows someone with a particularly small ear compared with the head size. This condition is almost always applied to a soul who has, in past incarnations, not cared to listen to others to a sufficient degree. In other words, a small ear arises from the refusal to hear what others are saying. The larger the ear size, the more the person tends to be willing to listen to others. This is indicated by the overall dimensions of the ear and also by the degree to which the ear projects outwardly from the side of the head."

"But another point must be made. Not only does the small ear size represent an attitude in past lives, but the ear size is made moreso in almost every case in order to make it even harder to hear that which others are saying. Two points need to be elaborated here. First, the smallness of the ear, literally, makes it difficult to assimilate what others are saying. This is not just because the sound itself is somewhat fainter due to the smaller shell of the ear, but also because the small ear actually inhibits the willingness to listen to others. This operates through a complex mechanism involving The Astral and Aetheric Bodies, which We need not deal with here."

"The second point is that the smallness is usually exaggerated beyond that directly correlating with the past life failures. This is done in accordance with a great spiritual law, which is relfected in the scriptural saying, 'To those that have, even more will be added, while to those that have not, even the little they appear to have will be taken away'. A deep truth regarding Cosmic Laws is buried in this statement. When a soul fails to learn a given lesson -- for example, the need to listen to others -- then, in subsequent lives, that lesson must be made even harder to learn."

"This essential process is necessitated by the requirement that those striving upwardly for perfection shall have the way made easier through the help of Higher Entities, while those striving downwardly into matter and selfishness shall have that way made easier, which means that the upward way becomes even more difficult to attain. Thus, the striving always results in processes which facilitate the movement in the direction sought. But this means that those not seeking The Spiritual Path will remove themselves further and further from It, as the whole process of their incarnations becomes geared to the downward path which they have made their own."

"Thus, the meaning of the scriptural quotation is clear. By the working of this immutable law, any spiritual gifts or insight in one deliberately turning his back on The Higher Path will be diminished in each successive life by the very efforts which that individual is putting into his negative, regressive ways. Now, since one who refuses to listen to others is seeking to cut off the input that those others might have had, he is given even smaller ears in the next life to allow him to move in the very direction which he has chosen. The Cosmic Laws work to further any deliberate striving in any direction."

"There are ears which are rounded and those which are elongated in the vertical direction. Here is a symbolism which should be clear to those with spiritual insight. The roundness of the ear -- or of any physical thing on The Earth Plane -- denotes a kinship with the ideas of materiality, the bringing forth of creation at the physical level, and fructification. Such individuals tend to be drawn to a practical life, and any creativity which they show tends to be in the physical sense. Thus, an individual with a rounded ear will find it more interesting to plant a garden and bring forth the fruits of the soil than to study abstract principles or to strive for spiritual knowledge, which, to him, would be totally impractical. His drive is toward the experiences of The Earth Plane, and it is here that he tends to concentrate his energies."

"Conversely, the person with the elongated ears, i.e. ears with a greater dimension vertically than horizontally, will have a bent for abstract speculation and philosophising. He will, if drawn to the spiritual areas, prefer to study the great Cosmic Laws rather than involve himself in the details of 'practical occultism'."

"The ear is the organ through which about half of a person's daily 'information load' is received. The general size and prominence of the ear (the visible portion of the organ) is roughly proportional to the degree to which the individual is willing to listen to others. By this, We mean to really listen to others. Generally, those with small ears are individuals who keep their own counsel and resist asking another for an opinion. If the opinion is offered gratuitously, this individual often will not 'hear' it."

"Conversely, there are many people who have quite prominent ears, either because they strike out at a substantial angle from the head, or simply because they are large compared to the average. Such individuals have come into incarnation quite prepared to be taught or informed by others, and this bias will reflect in the personality."

"The size of the ear lobes is another feature that should be noted. The presence of prominent lobes marks a person who has relatively direct access to information from his own Higher Self. This does not necessarily mean that the person will use this channel in his daily life. Some who have very prominent lobes deliberately turn their backs upon this possibility, while others with small or non-existent lobes work hard to establish such a contact despite the difficulty this represents for them. It is of considerable significance that most Buddha head sculptures have huge, pendulous ear lobes."

"There are certain individuals whose ears appear not to be matched. Where one finds that the 2 ears are different in prominence, i.e. one larger or higher set or more angled than the other, it may be taken that the person prefers to take advice or opinions from one sex rather than the other. For example, if the right ear is clearly larger or more prominent than the left, there will be an inherent tendency to prefer to discuss problems with male friends or with the father."

"It is worth mentioning here that certain oriental systems of diagnosis regard the ear as representing the entire physical body curled up in the manner of an inverted fetus. These systems hold a great deal of truth. Indeed, the ears of each individual are connected, via acupuncture meridians, to all of the major portions and organs of the physical body (at The Aetheric Level). In general, the appearance of permanent or temporary marks or tender spots can be taken as a pointer to some condition affecting the corresponding portion of the body whose function is impaired, whether by diet, illness, or otherwise."

"The ears correlate astrologically with The Planet Mercury. They are the principle receivers, in early life, of that which quickens the mental faculties, the spoken word. The spoken word has, in fact, certain vibrational characteristics which actually stimulate the mind of the infant or child into wakefulness."

"Those with prominent ears, additionally, are seeking to know through the mind. They wish to understand the world, not just look at it with their eyes. Conversely, small ears denote one who does not wish to think for himself, or who does not want to listen to others (as previously mentioned)."

"The entire body is reproduced in the microcosm of the ear, and if a parent fondles and plays with the ear of a small child regularly, this will promote healthy growth of the various body systems and organs, and especially will aid those internal functions in the throwing off of wastes and toxins."

"A cleft in the ear lobe, seen usually as a diagonal line running through the lobe, shows that the unresolved male/female conflict at The Soul Level is producing physical problems, usually in relation to the abdominal organs. Medical science has associated this signal with Diabetes, and it is true that many diabetics have such a line. However, the presence of this mark can also betoken digestive difficulties, liver problems, and other afflictions relating to the abdominal organs."

"Finally, there is the matter of deafness and partial deafness. We should point out, initially, that some older individuals lose at least part of their hearing simply because they have assaulted their bodies for many years with improper foods. However, there are those who experience hearing loss even in youth or the prime of life. It may confidently be assumed, in such cases, that the loss has a meaning and purpose. Usually there is some quantum of karma being dealt with through the struggle to hear. But more importantly, the condition is normally imposed in order to prompt the individual to pay attention to others, to really hear what they are saying. Typically, such an individual has spent one or more lifetimes ignoring the words of others, pretending he could not hear or could not understand what was being said. By now forcing him to strain in order to hear, this inner trait is counterbalanced. A great deal of insight on this question can be gained by getting to know children who have hearing problems."
