GLASS

"Glass is a material which exists by virtue of the inter-relationship between silica molecules in a special kind of matrix. Because of the range of light wave-lengths to which the human eye is sensitive, the material glass appears transparent. However, if the human eye had developed a sensitivity only to the infra-red region, for example, then glass would appear cloudy or opaque. Thus, there is a special rightness for the relationship between glass and the human range of visual sensitivity, which is at the root of the symbolic importance of this material for Mankind."

"Glass, though hard and structurally quite strong, nonetheless appears, to the human eye, to allow the light to pass unhindered through it, just as if it were not there. Here then is the symbolic meaning. If a man can make himself as the glass, that is, allowing all vibrations to pass through him without resisting and without reacting, then he will have accomplished one of the goals of earth life, which is to be 'in the world but not of it'. He who is in the world and who is of the world cannot simply assume the position of an observer of the passing scene. His attachments to events, his will, and his desire bind him too closely to the outcome of things, and thus does he experience pain and disappointment."

"The one who remains unaffected by the course of events, who understands that all of reality is intent upon working out a Divine Plan that is just and purposeful, can contemplate even the destruction of the very foundation of physical life and know that the outcome must be only the greater good for all beings."
