SATURN

"Saturn is by far the most important and least understood of The Planets in Astrology. It is the bringer of lessons and tests, but it also rewards those who have mastered the challenges of physical incarnation. Hence Saturn is certainly not merely 'The Greater Malefic' as was once commonly thought. Indeed, at the end of a life, when the soul looks back upon the periods when the most was learned the quickest, he will find that Saturn was active in all such episodes. And since the purpose for incarnation is to learn and to improve, the impulses coming from the saturnian vibration are among the most beneficial in the long run."

"The Physical Plane is The Plane of inertia. The body responds sluggishly to impulses for change. People resist ideas that require them to disturb their old habits. And nothing reponds instantly to thought as it does on The Astral Plane (i.e. you cannot merely think a house into existence but must instead expend considerable energy or money to erect one)."

"Because of this inertia in people's minds, emotions, and bodies; because of the resistance to disrupting old habits, some factor must be provided which will add the impetus necessary to bring about change. This factor is The Planet Saturn."

"Where Saturn is found in the birth-chart, first of all, points to some major lesson which is yet to be mastered in physical incarnation. To give an example, Saturn in Leo denotes the lesson of pride, in Taurus that of self-indulgence, and so on. Because of this singling out of one important lesson-learning area by saturn's birth position, it is reasonable to expect that as Saturn continues to circle The Zodiac, touching first one then another birth Planet by transit, It will often bring its own birth lesson designation into play, possibly along with lessons denoted by the placement of The Planet being touched by a saturn transit (or other direction/progression)."

"Saturn takes some 29 years to circle The Zodiac. Hence It squares its natal place at age 7, opposes it at age 13-14, and again squares its birth position at age 22 or so."

"The first circuit of Saturn around The Zodiac, then, corresponds with the first 29 years of life. During this cycle, one is expected to collect experience, explore the physical world, and expand his horizons of endeavor and experience. After the 'First Saturn Return' at age 29 or so, however, the individual enters a phase in which he is expected to begin to digest and sort out his previous life experiences, drawing from them the appropriate lessons, assimilating them in an integrated way into his consciousness, and making the indicated changes in his habits of activity, thought, or emotion."

"During the first saturn cycle prior to The First Return at age 29, the peak points encountered at the ages 7, 13-14, and 22 are often used by The Guides to bring special forces into play to begin the corrective process which the individual will complete, hopefully, during the second cycle. Hence, many persons will be able to confirm that the ages in question held for them certain pivotal and often difficult experiences which were largely beyond their immediate control. That is one of the hallmarks of the saturnian influence."

"Saturn is also linked with karma as eastern astrologers well know. As such, it can be expected that the quarter-points in the saturn cycle mentioned above, and also the transits of Saturn past other birth Planets, will be used as suitable times for allowing the individual to meet part of his karmic burden. Any trying or painful experience coinciding with a saturn period of the kind indicated will certainly have been orchestrated and planned by one's Guides for karmic purposes."

"In some cases -- alas, all too many at present -- an individual will be unable or unwilling to lift his sights to loftier planes after the first saturn cycle is completed. Those who continue to emphasize the same physically-oriented attitude which marked their youth phase, or who will not relinquish the self-centeredness or pride of their younger years, will not find the second saturn cycle to their liking. For it is here that saturn's vibrations really begin to put pressure on the individual to get him to rethink his philosophy, to realign his sights upon a higher goal, and generally to adopt more spiritual modes of thought and behavior. In many cases, where there has been no initiating of the appropriate change during the second half of the first cycle, The First Saturn Return at age 28-29 will be among the most traumatic and pressure-filled periods of the life."

"The mid-point of the second saturn cycle corresponds roughly to age 42-44 and is the time of both male and female menopause. Although all females, with few exceptions, do pass through the change of life in the early 40's, it is not true that all males undergo a period of frustration, dissatisfaction, or despair at that age span. Those who do not are those who have developed a philosophy of action or thought which raises their sights beyond the merely physical world."

"If a man has not, by his early forties, learned that life is more than success, money, or pleasure, then Saturn will most certainly begin to bring the lesson home to him as It opposes its natal place for the second time. And the pressure will remain on so long as there is complete resistance to change in the individual. Until he, at least, begins to develope some new way of viewing himself or the world, the crisis will continue."
