THE PLANETS

"We wish to briefly discuss the basic significance of The Planets in astrological terms, in order that We can illustrate the way in which their physical characteristics are in line with those general meanings (in a symbolic fashion)."

"Mercury, the closest body to The Sun, governs the mind and the realm of rational thought. Since The Sun represents the underlying Ego (Higher Self) or Monad (Higher Self of The Higher Self), and since The Mental Body is the cloak which will remain with The Ego (Higher Self) longer than the other bodies (aetheric, physical, astral, etc.), it is appropriate that its significator should be located the closest to The Sun."

"Venus rules beauty, the love nature, and the emotions generally. She is cloaked in soft clouds that give Her a gentle appearance in a high-powered telescope. Her beauty is particularly striking when She appears as The Morning or Evening Star."

"Mars has deep powerful energies which rule aggressive and explosive events as well as man's sexual nature. Mars appears reddish in the sky and is dry and arid."

"Jupiter is the largest of The Planets and is Itself a minor sun. An internal source of power causes this giant to radiate out more energy than It receives. In Astrology, Jupiter rules largeness, bountifulness, and luck."

"Saturn rules all that which limits Mankind in The Earth -- illness, government, law and order, the harsh realities of life. And Saturn is the only Planet That is surrounded by its own 'chains', the rings which encircle It."

"Uranus governs that which is unusual and different. This distant Planet, unlike all The Others, is tilted over so that its axis of revolution is almost parallel with its own orbit. Hence It is Itself unusual."

"Neptune is the god of the sea and is singular in that its direction of rotation is different from all the other Planets. Imagine you are watching a rotating circle suspended over the sea and that you look at its reflection in the water's smooth surface. The circle would appear to be turning in the opposite direction (reflecting illusion)."

"Finally, Pluto lies at the farthest outpost of The Solar System, a small, cold Planet Which represents, astrologically, the concept of deep-rooted change, the force which sweeps all before it and clears the slate for a new lesson. It is useless to resist the change which Pluto brings, and those that do are usually flattened by its power. Pluto's difference lies in the angle which its orbit makes to the orbit of The Earth. It is far more inclined than any of the other Planets. Here is the 'change', for the different angle implies a different point of view, a different outlook on a particular thing."
