"Typically, when an incarnated soul dies, and after it has passed through a certain number of cleansing phases in The Astral Realms (in which it sheds many of the tensions and the unfulfilled cravings or aspirations of the life experience just ended), it usually spends some time in what We may call The Vessel of Healing. This phase is one in which the soul returns to its 'family'. We do not mean family in the earth sense, although some of the actual family members or close relatives are likely to belong to The Soul Group constituting the Spiritual Family."
"Picture a beautiful, translucent goblet or chalice of iridescent colors, and, in your imagination, fill that vessel with The Soul Essences of perhaps 30 or 40 individuals. These Essences are of a transcendent beauty, like rainbow Beings of The Purest Light -- moving, touching, coalescing for a time, then again separating into undulating but distinct forms. This experience can be brief or lengthy in terms of earth years, depending upon the needs of the individual Souls. Its purpose is many-fold, but the primary goals are these:
a) to rebalance the 'mix' of traits in each of the separate Individuals, through contact with other Souls Which are very similar in essential vibration;
b) to allow a Soul to 'borrow' from other kindred Spirits certain characteristics, habitual responses, and/or talents that may be needed in the next planned incarnation;
c) to permit each individual to benefit from the past experiences of the other Members of The Group, in terms of the spiritual lessons learned; and
d) to allow one Soul to share the karmic burden of another, at least to a limited extent, whereby both can make greater progress in forthcoming incarnations."
"These points require some elaboration. With regard to the rebalancing of the mix of characteristics in each Soul, it must be understood that, during a typical earth life, a given individual (personality) will often develope response patterns which move him away from true balance. For example, if one were to undertake an incarnation in which a great deal of worldly success was planned with access to a considerable amount of wealth, there is a risk that the soul (the personality) could be so drawn to the pleasures of a rich life-style that it would develope an inordinate craving for money or possessions."
"The habits of a full lifetime -- in terms of the things on which the mind is concentrated -- can greatly affect the ultimate Individual (The Higher Self), and if negative or unbalanced traits become ingrained into The Higher Levels of an individual, there may be a pressing need to modify or counterbalance them in some way prior to the next incarnation."
"Now, one way to go about this is to allow the individual, during his sojourn on The Astral Planes immediately after physical death, to act out the accumulated desires or tendencies until the point is reached where he becomes tired of the pattern and begins to see it as the imbalance that it is."
"Typically, an individual would find himself, after death, in an astral environment in which his mentally projected desires would be instantly fulfilled, for that is the nature of The Astral Planes. By allowing this acting out of desires, it would be the hope of his Guides that he would eventually begin to weary of the sameness of the experience and to long for something more fulfilling. At that point, he would be open to contact from 'real' beings who could explain that he had merely been projecting the entire experience."
"However, an astral experience of this kind does not always root out all traces of the unbalanced habit of thought or desire. In such a case, The Guides of the soul may plan for him a lengthy sojourn in what We have called The Vessel of Healing, with the expectation that the remainder of the unwanted trait (or traits) can be 'taken on' by other Souls in the same Family, thus sharing the burden."
"However, when a kindred Soul absorbs even a small portion of a given trait, It will simultaneously take into Itself a relatively clear picture of those events in the other soul's recent incarnation which led to or reinforced the trait in question. This explains, to some extent, the abundance of past-life 'memories' which many individuals can manifest under hypnosis. Some of those memories are from actual past incarnations of The Soul in question, but others may well arise due to the taking on of traits from another Soul during a sojourn in The Vessel of Healing."
"In addition to accepting a trait and the memories of a particular life-time associated with that trait, The Soul Who is doing the accepting also absorbs a part of any karma which may have been amassed in connection with that trait. And any proposals for sharing of traits and karma in The Vessel of Healing which are accepted by The Guides are cleared by a Higher Authority often called The Lords of Karma."
